The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) announced that the eleventh edition of the Nice Classification comes into force from January 1, 2017 on.
A total of 483 revisions, 109 deletions, and 67 additional revisions to names or notes on groupings were recently made to TIPO’s names and search reference for designated use of goods/services in applications for trademark registration. This was done to stay current with the Nice Classification (NSL 11-2017), which is updated periodically. These changes took effect on Jan. 1, 2017.
Applicants e-filing their applications for trademark registration after Jan. 1, 2017 are advised to be aware of the revisions to avoid the inconsistency when filling out the names of designated goods/services, and thereby losing the NT$300 fee waiver.
